Introduction to Teal
Teal is a new mindset about organizations and purpose
Many of us today think of organizations as machines composed of processes that accept inputs, perform functions that we hope add value, and produce outputs that solve problems for customers and generate revenue for us.
Some of us may think of the organization as a team or community or even a family. Members work together for the good of the customer and the organization.
Each of these metaphors for organizations is useful. Each also has its limiting factors and particular perspective.
Evolutionary organizations–color-coded as Teal in the diagrams below–use the metaphor of a living entity. The organization itself has life and energy and purpose.
Working within such an organization steers leaders and individuals towards a mindset of trust. Abundance and collaboration replace scarcity and competition. Fears and egos are tamed.

The uplifting message of Reinventing Organizations has resonated with readers all over the world, and they have turned it, one conversation at a time, into a word-of-mouth phenomenon. The book has helped shift the conversation from what’s broken with management today to what’s possible. It is inspiring thousands of organizations—corporations and nonprofits, schools and hospitals—to adopt radically more powerful, soulful, and purposeful practices.
